Color blindness is a condition in which an individual is unable to detect certain colors or perceive them at all. Worldwide, it affects approximately 8% of men and 0.5% of women.
Color vision is a cone cell in the retina determines color, and color blindness occurs when one or more photopigments are missing or defective. Various types of color blindness exist, such as red-green, blue-yellow, and total color blindness.
Color blindness can be tested using color vision tests, such as the Ishihara color plates. Color blindness cannot be cured, but individuals can adapt to their condition and use tools like color filters to help them distinguish colors.
